Formal Obedience Commands
At Top Dawgs you & your dog will learn these important commands.
Sit
- Used for stabilization and/or safety
- Position dog’s rear end in contact with the ground and nose
in the air
- Position is held until released or commanded otherwise
Stay
- Behavior used for stabilization and/or safety
- Position is held until released or commanded otherwise
Down
- Behavior used for stabilization and/or safety
- Position dog’s sternum in contact with the ground and dog in
upright position
- Position is held until released or commanded otherwise
Come
- Behavior for both formal and informal settings
- Formal use moves dog in position at handler’s side, facing
the same direction
- Informal use moves dog within six-foot radius of the handler
Heel
- Behavior used for safety and complete attention to handler
- Position dog at handler’s side with withers parallel to
handler’s leg
Back
- Used to move a dog backwards from any spot
Wait
- Used to set boundaries and create leadership and respect
- Can be used at any entry or exit
Dismissed
- Used to release the dog from a command
- Dog must still maintain attention to handler
Hurry Up
- Used to have the dog relieve itself
